Yury Kuper

Yury Kuper was born in Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow Fine Arts Academy in 1963. He emigrated to Israel in 1972 and currently resides in France, New York and London.

Yury Kuper is one of the most famous contemporary artists. His works are displayed in the world's finest museums — from the Tretyakov Gallery to the Metropolitan Museum of Art — and are held in numerous prestigious collections — from the Ministry of Culture of France to the Library of Congress in the United States. Kuper has mounted over 50 solo exhibits throughout the world. He has designed theatre productions and costumes in Europe and the United States; he has created collections of jewelry; he has designed interiors in France and Russia; has published books, created installations, mounted exhibits of sculpture and murals (“Small Scenes in an Interior”).

Yury Kuper is the author of the book “Moscow Still-Life” (New York, 1975).

His play, “Twelve Pictures from the Life of an Artist” is his first and only play. Its world premiere took place at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre.

Yury Kuper created the design for Alexander Sokurov's production of “Boris Godunov” at the Bolshoi Theatre.
